Team India is out of the World Cup and the tournament final will be played between hosts England and The Kiwis on Sunday at Lord’s cricket ground. But a whopping 41% of the total tickets were bought by Men in Blue supporters in advance. While a majority of them will still watch the game, some are trying to make a quick profit by reselling them (in black :P) online at inflated prices. And New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham isn’t pleased.
For the uninitiated, the official ticket prices across various categories are bronze (95 GBP or Rs.8,200), silver (195 GBP or Rs.16,800), gold (295 GBP or Rs.25,400) and platinum (395 GBP or Rs.34,000).
News18 reports that unofficial websites like StubHub and Viagogo are selling them for as much as £16,000 which is roughly Rs.13.8 Lacs!
The ICC has urged sports buffs to resell their tickets at face value on their official platform.
🎟️ Do you have tickets for the #CWC19 final that you can no longer use?
⏰ You have until 12pm BST tomorrow to place any unwanted tickets on the Official Resale Platform!

The Guardian quoted Steve Elworthy, ICC Cricket World Cup managing director saying,
“The only way fans can guarantee their ticket will be valid is to buy it from the Official Ticket Re-sale Platform, which allows fans unable to attend the final to sell to other genuine fans at face value. Anyone purchasing tickets from an unauthorised source, either online or in person, faces the risk of being left out of pocket and unable to enter the venue.”
Cricketer Jimmy Neesham also appealed for the same by posting on Twitter.
Dear Indian cricket fans. If you don’t want to come to the final anymore then please be kind and resell your tickets via the official platform. I know it’s tempting to try to make a large profit but please give all genuine cricket fans a chance to go, not just the wealthy ❤️ 🏏

I mean, I can see why people would want to make a couple of quid and that’s fine, but the asking price of some I’ve seen is absolutely ludicrous. https://t.co/FwL2Mh7yx1

Here is how desi Twitter hilariously responded to his request.

It is not about getting wealthy, in India few have a habit of reselling ticket in black, they seem to not forget their old habit I guess.

With only one day to go, it will be interesting to see how well ICC can tamp down on this unofficial trading.
