Are you losing out a bit too much of your hair? Maybe you need to check the number of hours you’re putting into work.

According to a report by New York Post, a study conducted in South Korea has found that people who work for 52 hours or more double their chances of going bald.

The research was carried out by scientists at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in Seoul. Nearly 13,000 men living in South Korea were a part of this research who were working for 40+ hours each week. They were divided into three categories – Short (lesser than 40 hours/week), Long (between 40-52 hours/week) and Much Longer (greater than 52 hours/week). They also considered their age, marital status, education, monthly household income, smoking and work schedule.

What they found was that early balding occurred on 2% in the Short category, 3% in the Long category, and 4% in the Much Longer category. This is to be noted that the study was conducted only on men, and not women.

Lead author of the research Kyung-Hun Son said, “The results of this study demonstrate that long working hours are significantly associated with the increased development of alopecia in male workers”, revealed Mail Online.

He also revealed how alopecia (baldness) develops due to excessive stress in human beings.

Many of us have been victims of a kind of toxic work-culture which glorifies long hours and extra work. It’s time companies pay more attention to the ill-effects of such stressful work environments and be more sensitive towards their employees.
