As Shocking As This May Sound, Oxford Dictionary’s Word Of The Year Is This Emoji

Do you know, in 2014, selfie was declared as word of the year?
It was done because of the different contexts, frequency and ease with which people had started using it.

And can you guess what the Word of the year 2015 is?
Take a wild guess. Rad? No. Troll? No. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia? No.

Meet the ‘face with tears of joy’. I am sure most of us have used this emoji in on or the other context. When you can’t stop laughing, when you are mocking someone, or when you see a crazy cat video, this is the go to emoji that we look for.

Emojis, which are a graphic representation of expressions, have been popular in use ever since we got introduced to instant messaging.

The Oxford University Press partnered with popular keyboard application, Swiftkey, to keep a tab on frequency and statistics of the emojis and words used. According to the results declared, this emoji is the most frequently used emoji amongst all.

So why do we like the emojis?

Because they are easy! People like being able to express themselves to the fullest with minimum words and efforts and in this emojis provide a brilliant assistantship. Keeping the same fact in mind, Twitter has also recently launched the option of using multiple emojis in a tweet.
