Fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community is a constant battle. In a world which is conditioned into believing that the only “natural” relationship that exists is that between a man and a woman, advocating for same-sex marriage can be a pain, especially if the other side lacks awareness.
Even though same-sex marriage has been legalised in some countries, exercising the right and more so dealing with the effects of society’s reaction can get extremely difficult, especially in the age of social media where trolls are on a daily hunt to attack basically anybody.
In a beautiful ceremony last week, New Zealand cricketer Hayley Jensen tied the knot with her fellow teammate from Australia, Nicola Hancock.
Hayley and Nicola have played together for two consecutive seasons of Australia’s Big Bash League for the team Melbourne Stars.
Both have them have had their fair share of fame in the cricketing world. Hayley had previously taken home the ‘Una Paisley’ medal for being Victoria Women’s Premier Cricket league’s best player (2017-18), while Nicola had been a killer wicket-taker in the league’s last season.
The announcement of their marriage was made by the official Twitter handle of their team Melbourne Stars.
From #TeamGreen, congratulations to Stars bowler Nicola Hancock who married her partner Hayley Jensen last weekend! 💍 pic.twitter.com/QvWb7Ue0Qx

As heartwarming as the post is, some people just lack humanity and the warmth to understand the various shades of love.
Tainted with homophobia, trolls started leaving hate comments on the post and shamelessly attacked them.

Same-sex marriage had been legalised in Australia in December 2017, while New Zealand did the deed way back in 2013, just FYI.
What a great indecent choice this sodomy women make to defile themselves

This shows how just changing laws isn’t enough. There’s a lot of ‘changing’ that the society needs to do!
Nevertheless, congratulations to the happy couple!
