Women Say They Are Celebrated For Marriage, But Not Their Careers In Eye-Opening Thread

We just stumbled upon this Reddit thread that is, in a sense, an eye-opener for all of us. In the post, a female user penned how she was sick and tired of people celebrating women for marriage and motherhood but seldom did anyone raise a toast for their accomplishments in careers.

The user, who is a doctor by profession, asked, ‘Why are women only celebrated for marriage/children?’

Why are women only celebrated for marriage/children? from women

She also penned a lengthy post explaining why she thinks this way:

“I’m single with no kids, but very accomplished career-wise. I’m a doctor, self employed and have started two businesses completely on my own that I’m extremely proud of. For medical school graduation, I got 2 or 3 cards in the mail. No celebratory party. Since starting my businesses, no one even has asked me how it’s going let alone done something to celebrate my accomplishments.

And yet how many bridal showers, baby showers and weddings have there been over the years? Countless. Everyone celebrates that, even though 50% of marriages end in divorce and they serve no one else but the two people getting married. At least my business helps people.

I’m just sick and tired of women only being celebrated for getting married and having kids. It’s not right.”

On reading her post, I realized how much sense her question made. Some users online also resonated with her thoughts.

A man’s view on this.

This is not the first time our expectations from society and people around disappointed us. So, IMO, the best thing to do is to never forget to celebrate your hard work, your success, and your achievements. You deserve that.
