Whether it is jawans in the Corps of Military Police (CMP) or train maintenance employees in the railways, women have successfully shattered the glass ceiling and entered professions hitherto dominated by men. Prior to 2018, there were no female aviation firefighters. Taniya Sanyal became the first in India and paved way for many others.
According to Business Standard, on women’s day 2019, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru announced its induction of 14 women in their Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) squad.
The Times of India reports that these women were recruited from all over Karnataka and underwent basic training at Bengaluru Airport followed by four-month extensive training at Airports Authority of India’s Fire Service Training Centre in Kolkata.
The Indian Express reports that this all-women team is the largest of its kind in Asia. Here is their story.

We salute these bravehearts for showing us that women are powerful enough to face even the most dangerous of circumstances with strength and courage. Kudos!
