‘Bohot Accha Kiya’, Says Desi Aunty On Meghan Markle’s Exit From Royal Household

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dominating news headlines lately for their surprise exit from the royal household in order to “work to become financially independent”. In an official statement by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the mentioned how they wanted to provide their family “with the space to focus on the next chapter”.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. Reports have pointed out that this drastic decision made by the duo maybe because of the alleged racism that Markle faced by members of the household as well as the press.

This evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual #WellChildAwards in London. WellChild aims to ensure every child and young person living with serious health needs has the best chance to thrive with the support and medical care needed in the comfort of their own home. The Duke of Sussex became Patron of WellChild in 2007, and last year both The Duke and Duchess attended the awards to honour the children and families that WellChild supports. However, a video of an elderly woman’s opinion on Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal household has been going viral on the internet, reports India Today.

Here’s what she says:

“Meghan ne bohot accha kiya hai. Royal family hai toh kya hua. Har insaan ki izzat honi chahiye. Iske liye aurat ko himmat chahiye. Kisi ka woh kehna na mane – na behen bhaiyon ka, na bachchon ka, aur na miyaan ka. Agar uske sasural ne uske saath kuch kiya hai, then she should get up and decide what she should do. Meghan ne apne saans ko bohot khush kiya hai. Woh apne kabar mein itni khush hai, usne duaayein di hai. Meghan jiti raho. Yehi toh main chahti thi aur main nahi kar saki. Bahut khoobsurat thappad maara hai jiski awaaz mujhe kabar tak sunaayi di hai. Har aurat ko aisa hi karna chahiye. Badtameezi na karein saans ke saath. Baat yeh hai ki rishton ko nibhaana kaise hai.”

This roughly translates to, “Meghan has done the right thing. So what if she belongs to the Royal family? Self-respect is the most important thing. She should not listen to anybody. If her in-laws have done something, then she should get up and decide what she should do. With her decision, Meghan has made her mother-in-law very happy. She must be blessing her and saying that this is what she wanted but couldn’t do.”
