This 102-Year-Old Woman Sold Her Goats Just To Build A Toilet For Her Home

When I switch on my television I am bound to come across an advertisement related to building toilets in villages where Vidya Balan is seen in her didactic avatar. As I see that, I feel proud that government is keen to make people realize the importance of toilets and the consequent sanitary problems.

While that is spreading awareness, this one woman who is 102-year-old, has done something remarkable.

Meet Kuwarbai Yadav who sold her goats for Rs 22,000/- and constructed a toilet for herself.

Kuwarbai is 102-years-old. She resides in Kotabharri village in Dhamtari district.

What motivated her?

The village meeting. She came to know about the diseases that could spread because of open-defecation. People in her village use dense forests for defecating.

Her next step:

She didn’t wait for any legal action or step. She sold her goats for Rs 22,000/- and built a toilet for herself. And she didn’t stop here. She is making everyone aware of her actions and propagating the idea of getting a toilet for each home.

Did she succeed?

Yes. More than 450 residents are now ready to build a toilet for their home.

Her village is now more aware and it has a cascading effect.

Dhamtari administration has collaborated with collector Bhem Singh to get the subsidy for toilets under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.

Kamar tribals who reside near hills are also inspired to construct toilets for themselves.

Community leaders Community leaders Luvkush Dhruv and Bhaghelaram said that they are happy with this initiative and the fact that people are giving up their old practice.

This is commendable. Not only because this old woman has a toilet but also people are aware of this problem which breeds many harmful diseases.

Bravo, Kuwarabai!
