Society will make you believe that marriage is the happy ending. If you think about it, most romantic films end with a couple getting married – the quintessential ‘happily ever after’. However, innumerable marriages are unhappy marriages. More and more people, especially women, are deciding to walk away from unhappy and abusive marriages for their own sake, and they are celebrating it. Divorces nowadays are being celebrated because it takes a lot of courage and grace to go through the entire process, let alone the public scrutiny that comes with it.
Similarly, a video of a woman from Pakistan celebrating her divorce with her loved ones has gone viral on social media. Dressed in a lehenga, the woman dances her heart out while her friends cheer for her. However, several orthodox people are shaming her for doing so. They think that social media has done great damage to the institution of marriage.

This is where a lot of people stepped in to support the woman. They highlighted that being divorced is way better than tolerating an abusive and unhappy marriage. The woman in question has got a new shot at life and her decision to separate must not have been easy – and this calls for celebration.
The institution of marriage has done a great damage to mental health of almost everyone. It’s good that people finally realize that walking away is better than suffering, in any way, physically, mentally or emotionally. https://t.co/kLMr34ofxM

One doesn’t need social media to know many marriages are a cesspool of physical and mental abuse. https://t.co/auNzjpNGhT

Social media is like the 826278th thing that has done great damage to the institution of marriage. The first and the greatest thing is the institution of marriage itself. https://t.co/VEHukhmOip

Am happy that she’s happy. 🙂
As for social media, she’d have had this party even if there had been no social media at all.
It’s her way of celebrating her reclaimed freedom from a relationship she wasn’t happy in.
Wish you all the best, young lady.

She looks happy. It’s her choice.
Most women won’t take this bold step.
Let her enjoy her new found freedom.

Everything aside… the end of a painful marriage should also be celebrated.
It’s a new life after all and so many things to look forward too!!! https://t.co/bwAElKXa4O

Maybe she had a very bad marriage. Let’s not judge someone without knowing their side of the story.

Some marriages are toxic and irreparable, making separation a cause for celebration. Life is short—make the most of it.
