It all happened when a 25-year-old woman named Varsha from Kanhangad in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, in an attempt to commit suicide, mixed rat poison in some ice cream. She then went ahead and consumed the poisoned dessert, reported The News Minute.

On feeling uncomfortable, Varsha went to her room leaving the poisoned bowl of ice-cream out on the table. Unknown to the deadly ice cream, her five-year-old son Adwaith and her 19-year-old sister Drishya consumed it post which they even ate some biryani from a local restaurant.

Drishya was also not in the best of her health and soon after the death of the little boy, she fell ill too. She was then taken into custody.

According to reports, even though Varsha had also consumed the poison-laced ice cream, she was fine. Hence, she didn’t inform anyone about her attempt at suicide or that her son and sister were not keeping well, said the police. The family was under the impression that they became sick after consuming the biryani.

Varsha has now been booked under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 305 (abetment of suicide by a child, or insane or delirious person or an idiot, or a person intoxicated) of the Indian Penal Code.
