Man Calls Out Scotch-Brite’s Sexist Logo, Company Responds & Vows To Change It

At a time when men and women are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in every field of work, certain companies and brands still come under the scanner for stereotypical and gendered marketing. But the good thing is that people are standing up against stereotyping with the help of social media. Recently, Hindustan Unilever Limited decided to remove the word ‘Fair’ from their popular fairness cream ‘Fair & Lovely’ after public outrage. Now, another brand has come into the spotlight.

Pushpanjali Banerji took to LinkedIn to share a post about the gendered labeling on a Scotch Brite mop that she saw. She explained that it is a problem because “cleaning should not be a woman’s job alone,” and we couldn’t agree more. Check out her post below:-

As per a report in HT, a communications strategy consultant named Karthik Srinivasan also took to LinkedIn to re-iterate her point. He also talked about Scotch-Brite’s logo that features a woman with a bindi, which in turn perpetuates stereotypical gender roles. Check it out:-

The post soon garnered a lot of attention, and soon after the company’s marketing head responded positively regarding the same in the comments section.

Both of them received appreciation for using social media productively, Kartik for bringing the issue into the forefront, and Atul’s speedy response on behalf of the company.
