In India, women are often shamed for wearing clothes that show skin, such as shorts, skirts, or crop tops. What’s funny is, this shaming usually comes from “aunties” who wear sarees that often expose much of their upper bodies with low-cut blouses. Talk about double standards.
In Bengaluru, a woman named Tanny Bhattacharjee, who works as a fitness content creator, was harassed and humiliated by an elderly local woman on the street for wearing shorts in public. In a video that was shared by Tanny on Instagram, we see the elderly woman shaming her, attracting the attention of people on the street and creating a public nuisance.
“Shorts not allowed in public in Bangalore? We did ignore her and started walking towards the car park. Then she started following us, shouting in public and stopping other vehicles to show me in my shorts to other men. FYI, I was not creating any content there. I was on my way back to the car, and she kept doing this just because I wore shorts?” Tanny asked.
Tanny uploaded two videos of the incident. Have a look:

Why does our society feel entitled to control how women dress?
