Woman Beats Up Her Boss With A Mop After He Allegedly Sexually Harasses Her Via Texts

The #MeToo movement brought under the limelight the widespread problem of women facing sexual harassment at their workplace. Many women experience unsolicited sexual advances and are asked for sexual favours from a male co-worker, especially those who are in a position of power.

In a similar incident, a woman in China took matters into her own hand and beat up her boss with a mop after he allegedly continued to sexually harass her via text messages. According to The Independent, a video of the incident went viral where the woman is seen beating the man up with a mop and throwing books and water at him. Towards the end of the video, she toppled his computer monitor.

The boss has been identified as Wang and the woman as Zhou, who is a government office worker. In the video, her boss can be seen covering his face while saying that the messages were only meant as a joke. Zhou complained that Wang had been sending her uncomfortable texts and was giving other women workers “unwanted attention”, reports Business Insider.

Wang has now been fired.

Responding to the incident, Lu Pin, who is a Chinese feminist activist, said that what she saw in the video was a “release of pent-up anger” over the “lack of accountability for those who harass” and the “lack of actions from the courts or law enforcement”.

The Independent further notes that there is a sheer lack of workplace protections against sexual harassment in China.

It is sad how women, due to the lack of action against the perpetrators, have to take matters into their own hands.
