Wife Suffers Memory Loss After Pregnancy So Husband Pens Their Story In A Book To Remind Her

The human body is one of the most magnificent machines known to man. It is so complex that we’re still exploring its many aspects and workings. And in some cases, it surprises us with rare conditions that are stranger than fiction. For instance, a Chinese woman was diagnosed with a hearing loss condition where she couldn’t hear men. And a US-based man suffered from an auto-brewery syndrome where his stomach produced its own in-house brew with yeast.

In the case of 31-year-old Camre Curto from Michigan, a rare pregnancy condition robbed her of her short-term and long-term memory and also severely affected her ability to make new ones.

During the 33rd week of pregnancy, she had a seizure after which doctors performed an emergency c-section to deliver her baby boy Gavin (now 7 years old). Then she suffered a stroke that stopped oxygen supply to her brain. When she woke up from her medically-induced coma, she remembered nothing. The reason was her preeclampsia (pregnancy-related high blood pressure) which progressed to eclampsia and caused her to seize.

Mail Online quoted her 38-year-old husband Steve Curto saying,

“When they brought her out of the coma and she started to wake up, something wasn’t right. She had no idea who she was or that she had just given birth. She didn’t know who I was or her parents were.”

After spending years working with an occupational therapist, she regained some bits of the past and developed new habits to help her in the future like writing down important things and saving milestones on her calendar.

To further help her in the process, Steve wrote their love story in a book called ‘But I Know I Love You’.

Metro UK quoted him recalling the inspiration for the same saying,

“We were sitting on the couch and she told me, “I don’t who you are but I know I love you,” That has always stuck with me. That has been the driving force behind everything.”

Their story is way more inspiring than any fairytale or movie romance, don’t you think?
