Until now, India has confirmed 125 cases of coronavirus with three deaths and around 13 recoveries. Apart from assuring efficient and immediate treatment to the patients, the Indian government has been taking the necessary steps to curb the spread of the virus.

Accordingly, they have widened the travel bans from Europe, the European Free Trade Association, Turkey and the UK from March 18. People arriving in the country from the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Germany and other European countries are being put into compulsory quarantine of 14 days at least to ensure safety. Recently, travelers from Afghanistan, Philippines, Malaysia were also prohibited from visiting India, reports HT.

Impressed with India’s efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus World Health Organization (WHO) has praised the country for its commitment. “The commitment from the Indian government and the Prime Minister’s Office has been enormous, very impressive. It is one of the reasons why India is still doing quite well. I am very impressed that everyone has been mobilized,” Henk Bekedam, WHO’s representative to India said.

“We have very good research capacity in India and especially at ICMR and department of health research. They have been able to identify the virus. Now India will continue to be part of the research community,” he added, reports Business Standard.

Talking about the vaccine for coronavirus, Dr. RR Gangakhedkar, head of epidemiology division at ICMR said, “Isolating the virus will mean we could have our own vaccine in future. However, there are several research projects active globally right now that are working on war footing to develop a vaccine against Covid-19, but I would say it will take at least one-and-a-half to two years before a vaccine sees the light of day.” Moreover, researchers have already begun working on the development of coronavirus vaccine, reports ET.

We urge people to cooperate with the government and medical staff and trust the measures and arrangements that they have made for the coronavirus patients. Get tested if you show sympotoms of the infection ASAP and help India fight the pandemic.
