Nowadays its very easy for anyone to abuse or harass people online. If you ever open a girl’s ‘others’ folder on Facebook, you’ll see the kind of unsolicited vulgar messages they get. And if ever their contact number is wrongly circulated then god help them!
We have had several cases of not just girls but even guys getting harassed on WhatsApp unnecessarily with sexual texts, rape threats, death threats, and offensive content.
Even though blocking a person is an option, we wonder why should these people not be punished for giving others a hard time.
But to our relief, WhatsApp users can now file a complaint with the Department of Telecom (DoT) against offensive messages.
This move has been taken by WhatsApp due to the everyday increase of abuses and threats against journalists.
The victim is required to furnish a screenshot of the message along with the mobile number and e-mail it to [email protected].
“If anyone is receiving abusive/offensive/death threats/ vulgar WhatsApp messages, please send screenshots of the message along with the mobile numbers at [email protected]”, DoT Controller Communications Ashish Joshi tweeted.
“We will take it up with the telecom operators and police heads for necessary action”, he added.

According to sources, DoT’s order has directed all telecom service providers to take immediate action against their customers for sending such messages as it is also a violation of customer declaration in the customer application form.
Hope this finally saves many from all the aggressive and abusive junk they get as messages every other day!
