As Diwali approaches, Indian employees wait with bated breath for their annual bonus. These bonuses are either a wonderful surprise, like the boss from Tamil Nadu who gifted Royal Enfield bikes to his employees, or a thoughtless cliché, like a box of soan papdi.
When you think of Diwali bonuses, there are a few standardized things that come to mind. For example, there are the boxes of sweets and dry fruits. Then there are expensive gadgets that are received by some very lucky people. Then, of course, there are the gift hampers. And finally, the best of all – cash.

According to Moneycontrol, AmbitionBox (a platform for company reviews and salary insights) recently did a survey in which it found that the thing that Indian employees want the most as a Diwali bonus is cash.
Around 2100 employees were surveyed and it was found that 66% would love a cash bonus from their company. 30% of employees wanted gift cards, 27% wanted gadgets, 24% wanted customized gifts, 21% wanted destination holidays and 12% wanted experiences like going to a spa.

When asked about how the bonuses help in building a relationship between the employee and the company, 63% said it motivates and engages employees and 39% said that it fosters a strong sense of loyalty.
