Imagine this: It’s the 90s/early 2000s. You go to a wedding. After socialising and digging through the starters and drinking two glasses of cold drinks, it’s finally time for dinner. There’s no buffet system, just sit and get served. You take a seat beside your mom and you look right in front of you – beside the plate is a tiny wedding menu card!
Wedding menu cards helped in making important food decisions. While you scanned through the list of delicious items with joy, you planned which items to eat and which ones to skip. It’s a loved childhood memory for many of us. Hence, when one Twitter user shared a picture of her parents’ wedding menu card from the 90s, people got nostalgic!
Have a look at the tweet here:
Omg my cousin found my parents' wedding reception menu card 😭 💛 pic.twitter.com/14GtgtGnH4

Amongst the many who reacted to the tweet, some shared how they collected such menu cards. Did you do it too?
My parents got married just two months before yours! Sadly I don’t think any menu cards survived. I also lost my collection of menu cards 🙁

Lucky were the ones who ate non-veg food, because they could eat items off the vegetarian menu as well!
Non veg population of course eating off both menus #winning

Some cards had small poems printed on them.
Same! Some used to have poems written on the back or even the menu written like a poem. It was wonderful!

And some came with an extra key chain!
Some caterers would actually go extra and add their menu in a keychain 😳

The only reason why I wanna hop on in that time machine.

This is from pre-buffet days. 😊👍

Dishes were spelt according to how they were pronounced locally.
This reminds of how our mess dada used to spell out the menu for the day at @IIM_Calcutta
Motor Panir FTW! https://t.co/qaQfqrp3UL— Siddharth Srivastava (@whatsitsname_) July 4, 2021
It has been written in the way they used to pronounce it.

Some yearned for them to come back!
TIL that wedding menu cards are a thing. Makes complete sense though, these the only wedding cards I'd be interested in as a guest.
If I ever get married, it's menu card time! https://t.co/9eIvakgpRd— emotional support chaap 🌈 (@_drongo) July 4, 2021
This is exactly the info I need before I enter a wedding so I'm not creeping tje buffet every now and then waiting for those placards to be placed in front of the huge vessels.
Also motor panir? Love it! https://t.co/ZJCSK0vlPQ— Chaipiya (@ChaaiPiya) July 4, 2021
Hahaha …
