I don’t know about you, but there is no love in the world like my love for momos. Yes, the same Indian (okay fine Tibetian) version of the mouth-watering dumplings. Doesn’t matter if you like yours, from fancy restaurants that serve saliva-inducing dim sums only, this savoury right here rules hearts! Also, snack streets in and around the country.
But, and it breaks my heart to say this, there might soon be a BAN on it! At least in the disputed valley of Jammu And Kashmir. Here me out before you jump to conclusions.
Believe it or not, BJP MLC Ramesh Arora doesn’t like momos and he has his reasons. He is even out on a mission to ban them immediately to save the youth.
“Our teenagers are getting addicted to the dumplings like drugs. It’s spoiling their health. We have to stop it.”
He has even conducted public gatherings to encourage people to join him in his war on momos. Apart from health, he is also wary of the ‘foreigners including Bangladeshi and Burmese’ who are in the business of making and selling momos.
According to the senior lawmaker, Ajinomoto, the salt used in momos, is not only harmful but life-threatening.
And apparently, his efforts to create awareness have worked and reduced the sale of momos by 35 per cent in Jammu. Although the debacle over MSG (Ajinomoto’s brand name) and its ‘safe for use’ certification by FDA has been long debated, this move is certainly the highlight amongst all.
