Vivek Oberoi Posts Video Driving Helmetless Without Mask, Gets Charged By Mumbai Police

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi recently landed in trouble and was charged by the police after posting a Valentine’s Day video with his wife Priyanka Alva Oberoi on Instagram. Read on to know why.

On Sunday, Vivek Oberoi took to his Instagram account to share a video of himself riding a brand-new motorbike at night in Mumbai along with his wife on the pillion seat. But he was not seen wearing a mask or helmet throughout the entirety of the video. Check it out:

After he uploaded this video, an E-challan of Rs. 500 was issued against on Friday for helmetless driving. The official of the Santacruz traffic division of the Mumbai traffic police, who issued the challan for flouting traffic safety rules, also stated that the actor violated the mandatory mask rule during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Today, an FIR (First Information Report) was also filed against him for not wearing a mask in public.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the official at the Juhu police station said, “An FIR has been registered against actor Vivek Oberoi for flouting public health safety rules mandated by the government which makes it mandatory for all citizens to wear a face-mask as a precautionary measure to control the outbreak of COVID-19. Action will be taken against the actor in this matter.”

In totality, he has been charged under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life). This, along with the provisions of the Maharashtra COVID -19 Precautionary Measures 2020, the Motor Vehicles Act, alongside the initial E-challan of Rs. 500 for not wearing the helmet, News18 reports.

Under both IPC sections of 188 and 269, the offender can be charged with a fine, punished with up to 6 months in jail, or even both.
