Mom Teaches Her Daughters That ‘Virginity’ Is A Myth & That Sex Is Important

A patriarchal society is one in which men have more freedom and advantages than women, without being judged or held back for their actions. While men are encouraged to have a lot of sex as it somewhat adds to their ‘manly’ or ‘macho’ quotient, most women are shamed for it. They are asked to “save themselves” for marriage. And the ones who do have sex are often termed as “promiscuous”.

One of the ways in which a patriarchal society tries to keep its women “in her place” is with the concept of ‘virginity’ – keeping it intact increases your worth; losing it decreases your worth – whatever “worth” means.

However, one mom named Cayce LaCorte is doing parenting right. She is teaching her 5 daughters that the entire concept of ‘virginity’ is nothing but a myth and a tool that society uses to “control” women, reports Daily Mail.

“I’m raising my five daughters to believe that there is no such thing as ‘virginity’. It is a patriarchal concept used to control women and serves no purpose. Other than making women feel bad about ourselves.”

Having sex my no means decreases ones worth, she says. She also adds that sex is “important” and that it is a “big deal” but it doesn’t change who you are.

“Just because some guy randomly sticks his penis in you at some point in your life does not change your worth, it does not change who you are, it doesn’t do anything other than it happened. Sex is important. It’s a big deal. It should always be a big deal. It has nothing to do with your ‘first time’. It’s just ridiculous. The whole concept is ridiculous.”

Does she not get judged by other parents? Of course, she does! But she is more focused on making her daughters good people with solid foundations and values who can make their own smart decisions.

“I get a lot of crap from other moms saying, ‘Oh well, do you think that will make your daughters promiscuous? Don’t you think?’ And I am like no, I am raising them to be good people and have solid foundations and make their own choices and make smart, intelligent choices. Not because some book says not to.”

We need more moms like Cayce who teach their daughters not to attach their self worth to having sex and teach them to make informed choices instead. Kudos to her!
