Glenn Maxwell’s Fiancee, Vini Raman Hits Back At Troll Who Asked Her To Marry An Indian Instead

Growing up in India, I never really understood some people’s obsession with fair skin. Be it applying skin-lightening products or stigmatizing people with darker skin tones, somehow a few individuals felt casual colorism or shadeism is an acceptable norm. For instance, when I was just 16, a nosy padoswali aunty would often suggest that I apply fairness creams so that I would get a ‘good-looking’ husband.

Well, irrespective of what the outdated aunty ji thought, skin color should never be a criterion while choosing your life partner. Who you want to be with is a personal choice and your skin tone has nothing to do with it. Speaking of which, Vini Raman, the fiancee of Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell, recently took to social media to slam a troll who suggested she shouldn’t be with a white guy but instead be with an Indian man.

Earlier this year, Vini, an Australia-based Indian pharmacist, and the veteran cricketer had announced their engagement on social media. But recently, when Vini shared a picture with her fiance, a troll asked her to settle with some Indian guy instead of the foreigner, reports India Today. Seeing the distasteful comment, Vini decided to give the person a piece of her mind.

She replied to the troll stating that it is her choice with whom she wishes to spend her life regardless of their nationality or ethnicity. She further said that the opinion of a faceless guy won’t make any difference to her life.

She further wrote,

“So, I normally don’t respond to comments like these as I know trolls do it just to get attention. But a 6-month lockdown has left me with plenty of time to educate ignorant morons. Loving someone of different skin color doesn’t make you a sell-out. Loving a white person doesn’t mean I’m embarrassed to be an Indian. Loving a white person is my choice and I shouldn’t have to worry about what others will think.”

Glenn, who is playing for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, also praised his wife for her brave response.

Well, it’s not only ignorant but also degrading to comment over any person’s personal choice. It’s 2020 and it’s high time we start accepting people for who they are and be more inclusive. Kudos to Vini for speaking her heart out! More power to you girl.
