Even after repeated requests by various Indian courts and multiple non-bailable warrants to his name, business tycoon Vijay Mallya was successfully taking refuge in Britain.
Mallya, who has been pursued by various banks in courts for the recovery of bank loans worth ₹9000 crores for the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines fled to Britain in April last year. Since then, it has been difficult for the Indian law agencies to bring him back to the nation.
However, a major development today might change that completely.
After evading arrest for a long time by fleeing to London, Vijay Mallya has finally been captured by the Scotland Yard. According to reports, he will be produced in Westminster court later today.
Last month, the British government accepted India’s request to extradite Mallya and this arrest is being seen as the first step towards it.
However, according to this tweet by journalist Bhupendra Chaubey, Mallya was granted bail in a matter of hours.
