All of us have been taught not to trail off to parks, parking lots, empty streets, basically outdoors in general, when it’s raining cats and dogs outside. Reason? We might get struck by lightning. While many of us scoff at the idea of getting struck by lightning (because what are the chances?), this video will make you think twice!
CCTV footage of a man from South Carolina getting struck by lightning while casually walking on the street has gone viral and is giving people major goosebumps.
The man, Romulus McNeil, is a school counsellor and the day the incident took place was orientation night for students and parents at the school, said reports. It was 6.30pm and raining heavily. He went out to get food for himself.
The video clearly shows how the lighting struck his umbrella and a jolt of current runs through it, missing his body merely by inches. Thankfully the man is safe.
Speaking to NBC News, he says:
“I just remember seeing a big flash. If it (lightning) had been too much to the right, it could have been a different story. I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you. But I can’t live in fear. I would definitely be more wary of what the weather man says. When he says ‘lightning and thunder’, I’ll be more cautious when I step outside.”

This makes me NEVER want to step outside the house when it’s raining! The man is lucky to be alive. Phew!
