Just a few days after Uri attacks in Kashmir, the Maharashtra police received information from a 12-year-old who resides in Uran, near Mumbai that a few unidentified men with arms, who looked like terrorists were discussing probable attacks on the city. But after nothing was found during the search, the story took a drastic and worrisome turn.
The schoolgirl who identified the men as dressed in black, discussing some “school’ and “ONGC”, carrying what looked like weapons has confessed that she lied about the whole thing just to get a thrill out of it.
She even gave physical details of the suspects and the sketches became the tool for identifying people who probably never existed. She also said that they were wearing black clothes like that of ISIS militants she had seen on TV.
The police went on a city-wide alert because a few other students of her school confirmed that sighting, which caused a lot of unnecessary tension in the state as well as the nation. An officer said,
“Though such faux alerts remain a concern, we cannot afford to ignore any of them as, if proved correct, they are a valuable tool in preventing terror attacks. But frequent false alarms contribute to force fatigue. Citizens must also realise that false alerts cost resources and money.”
Twitter went in a frenzy with this hoax.
Well done school kid. #Uran pic.twitter.com/I4K5a0DKFK

A point to be noted.
Think of the resources wasted on search op at #Uran. Think of how young ppl see perceived threat fm stereotyped images. Bigotry begins here.

Looking at the bright side…
A 12 yr Girls from #Uran gave fictional account of stories regd the terror suspect.
But wasn’t tht good for coordinated security drills?
