UP Official Adds 100 Years To Kids’ Birth Certificate After Parents Allegedly Refuse To Pay Bribe

If you are lucky, you may not have ever come across a person who asks for a bribe to get your work done. Many of us have had to pay bribes to officials in various departments, big or small, to get even the simplest of jobs done. I, for one, had to pay a small bribe once to get hold of my college certificate!

Speaking of bribes, two Uttar Pradesh officials allegedly added 100 years to the birth certificates of two minors after their parents refused to pay a bribe, reports News18.

The damage reportedly happened to 4-year-old Shubh and 2-year-old Sanket after their parents claimed they refused to pay a bribe of Rs 500 to the village development officer and the village head in order to get their birth certificates for which they had applied 2 months ago.

Sanket’s date of birth has been allegedly shown as June 13, 1916, instead of June 13, 2018, and Shubh’s date of birth as January 6, 1916, instead of January 6, 2016. This was apparently done to harass the family.

The anti-corruption court in Bareilly has ordered the police to register a case against the two accused.

Such actions should be severely condemned and strict action should be taken against those who ask for bribes.
