59-year-old Vaidhraj Kishan, an ayurvedic medicine practitioner, hit the road on April 8th, 2019 on a horseback, dressed in a sherwani and a typical bridegroom turban on his head. He also had a band to accompany him in his journey, which played a Bollywood tune as he marched forward through the streets of Uttar Pradesh.
But wait. Was he going for his marriage? Hell no.
The Sanyunkt Vikas Party candidate was actually heading towards Shahjahanpur collectorate with his ‘Baraat Gang’ to file his nomination for the upcoming elections! Beat that?
According to NDTV, when asked about his dramatic approach, Vaidhraj Kishan said,
“Mai rajniti ka damad hun (I am son-in-law of politics).”
“Today is my marriage anniversary that is why I have become bridegroom. (I have come here to file nomination as ”damad” of politics.)”
He went on to express that he absolutely loves being the center of attraction and being in the limelight.
According to TOI, Kishan was helped by his supporters with money for the election deposit. They also aided him with money for paying the band and other arrangements for his eye-catching ride! Kishan, who is the father of two sons, believes that the people have full faith in him because he has promised them to solve the issues like development and unemployment.
However, his troops were stopped by the police at Sadar Bazar area and had to get rid of his horse to reach the collectorate. The police also gave him a warning for using a band on road without taking permission.
If we take a look back at the man’s history, this is not the first time he has pulled off such a gimmick. In 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections he had arrived to file his nomination on an ”arthi” (bier). He has also contested 18 elections but has lost every time.
