Arguments do happen between a couple. The difference in opinions, choices and habits might often lead to arguments when you share a house and family for years with someone. And all this is a part and parcel of every married couple’s life. Atleast we believe so!
Well, the case is entirely different with Mr. and Mrs. Holmes from Great Britain who have been married for 50 years now. The couple claims that they have had only one important argument during all these years, reports The Sun.
They have been declared as the happiest couple in the UK recently. The duo credits their understanding and sense for humor for a half century long successful and happy relationship.
“We’re always finishing each other’s sentences and making each other laugh. I just love him, the excitement I got when I first looked at him is still there,” Leslie Holmes told Fox News. “People ask, ‘How have you made it work?’ and I always say, ‘How can it not work?'” she added.
Talking about the one single time that they have had an argument, Mrs. Holmes shared, “We were getting a new sofa — Barry was at work and I went to pick it up, but they didn’t have the color we wanted.”
“Barry refused to move into a new house with the old secondhand sofa we already had and the next day he went to the store and got a new one. We’d lived with his mom before and I think the pressure of the move got to him,” she added.
The couple started dating when they were teenagers. At the age of 17, they broke up, after staying away from each other for 18 months, Barry realized that Leslie was meant for him. After learning that Leslie was single, Barry proposed her for marriage and the two have been together ever since.
“That time apart made me realize how much Leslie meant to me. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. The love is stronger now than it ever was. I don’t regret one minute, proposing was the best decision I’ve ever made,” he said.
“He told me some of our friends were going to Blackpool for engagement rings and asked if I fancied it,” Leslie said. “I said, ‘What, going to Blackpool?’ and he said, ‘No, getting engaged’!” Barry recalled.
The couple who have two daughters and four grandchildren together enrolled for a contest at a jewelry store in the city. They were declared the happiest couple in the UK after their love story won the contest. They also got engagement rings as gift from the store.
