After Ukraine President, Female MP & Mayor Have Picked Up Arms To Fight The Russians

We all know that the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia is going to end on a rather depressing note. Lives and properties will be lost, taking the countries behind by many years.

However, in this fight, Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, denied leaving his countrymen to die alone, and instead of fleeing the country, he stayed to safeguard his people proving how strong and inspiring a leader he is.

Walking in his footsteps, many leaders, have taken matters into their own hands and picked up arms to protect their citizens despite having an option to fly away safely from the country.

Taking to Twitter, Kira Rudik, a Member of the Ukrainian Parliament, shared a picture of her carrying a Kalashnikov, an assault rifle, gearing up for fighting the invaders in her country. She went on to write:

“I learn to use #Kalashnikov and prepare to bear arms. It sounds surreal as just a few days ago it would never come to my mind. Our #women will protect our soil the same way as our #men. Go #Ukraine!”

Apparently, it is the first time she had picked up arms. Talking to India Today, Rudik said, “I was very very angry when the war started. I am still very angry. I still don’t understand how the neighboring country [Russia] and Putin can deny Ukraine the right to exist and I am very angry that I am being made to leave my town and my family is threatened and we are all put under threat just because the crazy dictator is telling us so,” she said adding that her partner and most of her friends have also picked up arms.

“I am protecting my family and I am organizing the resistance group that is fighting Russians on our streets because they need to go back to where they came from our soil because we are an independent country and will protect our sovereignty no matter what because I want my children to live in Ukraine that I’m building for them not some Vladimir Putin.”

The Ukrainian MP further divulged that picking up the weapon for the first time “is scary and powerful at the same time.”

“It makes me feel that I can protect my country. It will not be a Russian soldier against me unarmed.”It is sad that there’s no going back to how we were.”

“If he [Putin] does not withdraw his troops, then we will have to stand for every inch of our soil and we will do it. And the whole of Ukraine is ready for that. Ukrainians who fled the city are now coming back with arms, to protect it. There is no way Putin can have our capital,” she added.

Likewise, former heavyweight boxing champion, Vitali Klitschko, also the mayor of Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv has joined forces against the Russian invasion.

He, along with his brother and fellow Hall of Famer Wladimir Klitschko, is ready to fight for their country, reported The Indian Express.

“I don’t have another choice, I have to do that. I’ll be fighting,” the 50-year-old “Dr Ironfist” was quoted as saying.

He also added that civilians are also up to defend Kyiv. “I believe in Ukraine, I believe in my country and I believe in my people. The Ukrainian people are strong. And it will remain true to itself in this terrible ordeal. A people longing for sovereignty and peace. A people who consider the Russian people their brothers,” he wrote on his LinkedIn post.

“It knows that they basically do not want this war. The Ukrainian people have chosen democracy. But democracy is a fragile regime. Democracy cannot defend itself; it needs the will of the citizens, the commitment of everyone. Basically, there is no democracy without democrats,” he added.

All hail the courage of these leaders and inspiring Ukrainians fighting from the forefront to defend their country and countrymen, as promised.
