US President Donald Trump is often known for grabbing headlines for his bizarre statements. Earlier this year, he faced backlash online after he suggested sunlight and bleach could cure COVID-19. What is equally bizarre is that he has previously also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2016, and history has managed to repeat itself again.
As per a report in HT, a right-wing Norwegian lawmaker named Christian Tybring-Gjedde has nominated Trump for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize following the president’s announcement at brokering a “historic peace agreement” between Israel and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) on August 13, along with his other peace-keeping efforts at resolving worldwide conflicts.
News18 reports that the Norwegian politician, who is a four-term member of the Norwegian Parliament, reportedly stated that Trump has achieved “new dynamics in protracted conflicts” in places such as Kashmir, North & South Korea in his official nomination letter to the Nobel Committee. He added, “As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a game-changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.”
Christian who also holds the position of the chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly stated that “I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees.”
