Traffic Stands Still Even With Green Light, Cop Gives Old Man Piggyback Ride Across The Road

The fact that we live in a fast-paced world is undeniable. Yes, this could just be me being all nostalgic about the slower and sweeter times I grew up in. People paused to check in on their neighbours back then. We weren’t as heartless. We weren’t racing from point A to point B trying to soak up as many experiences as we can. Nor were our Friday nights exclusively about partying it up for an envious Instagram presence.

Sometimes, thinking about these things makes me sad. You know, #TimeToLeaveEarth type feels. However, the Internet is a double-edged sword. It can both leave you depressed with news of humans behaving like numbnuts and lift up your spirits with some tiny act of kindness across the world.

Fortunately, today the Internet worked in my favour. And I chanced upon this video of an old man trying to cross the road in China.

No, the sight of an old man crossing the road is not what made me happy. Two commendable and sweet gestures were made in the following minutes.

Just as the senior citizen reached the middle of the road, the traffic signal turned to green. Yet, save for the vehicles at both ends of the road, none of the others in the front moved.

Yes, it is a small gesture. But these days when people can hardly bear to wait for a few seconds, this means a lot.

And it doesn’t end there. Even as the old man slowly makes his way across the road, a traffic police officer approaches him. The cop bends down to speak to the senior.

The officer then proceeds to carry the old man piggy-back style, taking extreme care as to the senior’s comfort.

Yes, the officer went out of his way to help out an older citizen. He could’ve easily asked the old man to move faster or even just guided him across the road by his hand. But him going above and beyond his call of duty is what makes it all the more special.

These acts of kindness made my day. With most of humanity turning indifferent to the troubles of others, such gestures truly are a ray of hope. We could all take a leaf out of this incident and slow down a bit. Sure, chase your dreams and career goals. But also, pause to help someone out along the way.
