Goa’s Popular Club Tito’s Sold After Owners Claim They Were Harassed, People React

Partying in Goa has been synonymous with heading to Tito’s for many. In fact, Tito’s nightclub at Calangute beach has been bustling with nightlife for the last 40 years. Reports suggest the club used to have 90,000 visitors each month, but it seems it’s the end of an era.

Club Tito’s has now been sold along with other allied businesses in the city. The owners claimed there was harassment by government officials, politicians as well as NGOs. Ricardo D’Souza, a partner, expressed his disappointment in a social media post on Monday.

“With sadness and anger, we have sold our entire business in Goa. I personally have suffered the least as I was compensated adequately and even my future generations won’t have to work,” D’Souza explained.

Taking a dig at his alleged harassers, he added, “Can I please ask our officials to employ them, as I do not ever plan any more business in Goa. By ‘officials’ I mean all the harassing lot, like police, PDA (Planning and Development Authority), CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone), NGOs, panchayats and sarpanchas, block development officers (BDO), and deputy collectors,” D’Souza said.

“I am very grateful to certain segments of the government like Dr. (Chief Minister Pramod) Sawant, the IAS officers, ex-staff, present staff, our neighbours, all my friends and family and the common people of Goa who all contributed to this great Brand called TITO’S. End of an Era!” D’Souza added.

Ricardo and his brother David used to run Club Tito’s, Bollywood Discotheque and Cafe Mambo; all of which were a part of the Tito’s brand, reports TOI. The identity of the new owner, is still unknown.
