You Won’t Find A Single Person From 10:30 AM To 6 PM In This Town In India

Summers has already taken a toll in most parts of the country. The people are reeling under this unforgivable heat, but there is this part of India which faces the worst weather conditions.

In Titlagarh, Odisha, it’s so hot that there is actually a curfew every day: you can spot nobody from 10:30 AM to 6 PM.

Titlagarh lies in western Odisha town, 450 km from Bhubaneshwar and you can see the shopkeepers shutting their shops after 10:30 AM, thanks to the harsh heat.

The town consists of only 60,000 people and interestingly, even the name means ‘very hot’ in Sambalpur district.

The highest recorded temperature was 48.5-degree celsius in April.

The people share their experiences and insights on why they think the self-imposed curfew is beneficial.

A resident, Maneesh Majhi exclaimed,

Other than that, people keep oral rehydration salts and cover themselves with white clothing to avoid maximum heat.

But then, it’s the topography of this place that transforms it into a heat island.

According to Meteorological Department, the town is surrounded by treeless hillocks and block winds, making it very hot.

The low percentage of forest cover, which is 14.7% is also to blame.

To make the condition better, the team had visited the place and suggested to plant trees, covering a massive forest cover.

Saplings were planted in Tulang, Tikrapada and Belpadar areas of this town, but due to rising temperatures, the saplings dried up.

Well, in conditions like these, residents are doing the best they can: self-imposed curfew is better than losing lives.
