Recently, Justices N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar of the Madras High Court passed an order to prohibit the download and use of the ever-popular Chinese video-recording app, TikTok. The order came into effect on April 16 and now the app has been disabled by Apple and Google from their App Store and Play Store respectively.
The decision was taken by the bench because of the increase in abusive or pornographic content on the platform. Furthermore, addiction among young students was becoming an issue. In Delhi, the app was associated with the death of a 19-year-old.

Another hearing of the case has been scheduled for April 22 in the Supreme Court and April 24 in The Madras High Court. Until then, the interim ban is here to stay and no new users can download the app.
