Tried And Tested Things To Do For Some Mental Peace Even With A Crazy, Hectic Life

peace of mind

Let’s face it, finding a little peace of mind in this crazy life that we’re all leading can be really challenging. Like my ex-boyfriend used to say,

“Baby, this is chaos. Pure chaos.”

I never really understood or believed him when he kept saying that. But now I do. We’re all leading such stressful lives – some are caught in a chaotic life at work and others are finding their way through emotional turmoil. In our pursuit of personal and professional goals, the one thing we forget to seek is a little calm and peace of mind.

The day I realised it, I started trying to do anything it would take for me to find what makes me peaceful.

So here I am, sharing it with you – tried and tested things you can do to find the much-needed peace of mind in this crazy, hectic life of yours.

1. Walk on the beach. BAREFOOT.

This should come as absolutely no surprise. It is tried, tested and proven that walking on the beach barefoot is supposed to be relaxing and therapeutic.

But here’s the thing, you don’t need an hour or two to walk on the beach. Even 10-15 minutes of digging your feet in the cool sand by the shore can go a long way in calming you down.

(P.S – if you live in a city with no access to a beach, literally any water body will do. Lake, pond, river – take your pick.)

2. Make an ‘Instrumentals Only’ playlist.

This one works anywhere, anytime. I have an entire list of tracks that I listen to when I need to resign myself to my mind and shut the world outside. You don’t necessarily have to listen to Zen or meditative music, I listen to tracks by The Glitch Mob to Indian Jam Project, for god’s sake.

So just find the kind of instrumentals that pleases you and listen to it every once in a while. (Or every day. Your choice.)

3. Go to a pet cafe.

This is the newest trend in most cities (or so I’ve heard). Pet cafes are AMAZING. Did you know you can spend time with those adorable little beings and you’ll be showered with lots of sloppy kisses, hugs and unconditional love? Well, now you know!

If not a pet cafe, go to an animal shelter. You can pet those babies and take one (or more) home if you can care for it.

4. Go sit on the swing in the garden.

Remember when sitting on the swing as children were the best days of our lives? Well, bring those days back. The back-and-forth of the swing as the wind brushes against your face? It’s a blissful feeling.

(Pro-tip: You can plug your earphones in and listen to your instrumental music for doubling that peace of mind.)

5. Go for a long walk. Alone.

Yeah sure, it’s romantic to go for a long walk with your partner/best friend. But peace of mind cannot be achieved if you have someone to chitter-chatter with. It’s alright, take a walk alone. Don’t carry your phone with you.

You don’t need to walk by the beach or someplace exotic. Sometimes, calm can be found amidst the chaos of the city.

Walk on the sidewalk of a busy road, for all I care, but as long as you can gather your thoughts or detach yourself from everything else, you should feel better after the walk.

6. Join a club that makes you happy.

It could be a laughter club or a serious book club. Me? I joined a poetry circle that would meet once a month. And that monthly meeting was the most enriching experience for me. So find something that you like, you don’t have to be good at it, but just go and meet people who like it too.

7. Sweat it out.

A workout is another of the proven ways to feel better instantly. But what if you can’t make it to the gym or dance class or yoga class or anything else that you’ve signed up for?

In that case, switch off the lights in your room, put on your favourite dance music and let loose. Trust me, the rush of endorphins will leave you feeling lighter and thrilled.

This is my personal list of things I’ve tried and those that worked for me beautifully to find my ground, aka, peace of mind. I’m sure there’s many more you can do and try to find yours. But the thing is – you have to find the time to do something for yourself every single day.

Because baby, life really is chaos otherwise.
