From just a few hundred followers, Deepika Ghose, the IPL sensation scored hundreds of thousand followers on Instagram in hardly anytime. But with fame comes attention and this attention might not always be delightful. Trolls and criticism are a part and parcel of fame. And, the internet did not spare the RCB fangirl from all of it.
She recently posted a picture on Instagram with a caption where she opens up about the darker side of the ‘unwanted fame’. “It all started on the Saturday of the RCBxSRH IPL match.”
She said that she has been attending RCB matches for many years with her family and did not expect it to be any different this time.
“I did not want any recognition or realize the number of times that I was on camera.”
She further said, “I am no celebrity, just an ordinary girl who was enjoying the match. I did nothing to warrant the kind of attention that ensued after the TV images appeared & I certainly did not seek it” .
Deepika described as a well-educated, artistic, entrepreneur, stylist and entertainer who works hard to excel at her work. She mentioned that she does not consider her overnight fame as an achievement. Her account got so many followers that she got the coveted blue tick and a verified status overnight. Talking about the increase in her number of followers, she said, “I am as much in shock as all of you.”
Disturbed with the unsought and vulgar male attention, Deepika wrote, “While I am grateful for the love, I am disturbed by the unnecessary negativity.”
“It has been an extreme case of abuse, trauma, and mental torture. I am confused as to how people found my name/profile. My identity, privacy & life have been hacked in an instant. A lot of the overnight followers are men who have used this platform to be crude, vulgar, vicious & entirely disrespectful,” she added.
Negativity for Deepika wasn’t just coming from the male section of the society but from the women too.
“Even more shocking is the hate I have received from women. How quick & cruel you have been to say mean things to & about me without even knowing me.
“I AM ONE OF YOU!” she wrote. “The world desperately needs more women supporting & uplifting each other. “
Surrounded by so much negativity, Deepika still managed to end her caption on a positive note. “Now that this has happened, I am going to turn this into something genuine, meaningful & fabulous. Yes, I am #theRCBgirl but I am SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT.”
We hope that people at least now stop blaming women for everything wrong or right happening around them. Moreover, Deepika seems like a strong woman who will sail through the rapids of this unbidden fame! All the best girl!
