We all are aware of the hazards of plastic pollution. It is a gruesome threat to not just humans but to animals too. In fact, countries like New Zealand have already issued a nationwide ban on single-use plastic bags.
Now, Thailand has joined in the efforts to help solve this pressing issue. Thai retailers kicked off the new year with a ban on single-use plastic reports Times of India. Environmental campaigners from the country where shoppers use an average of eight plastic bags per day have welcomed the move.
Several major mall operators and convenience stores including the popular 7-Eleven store have implemented the new rule. Though people can buy reusable alternatives for a small amount, many budget-conscious shoppers used easily available household items to carry their products.

Make-up artist Acharin Prahausri borrowed food-storage netting from his mother that she normally dries fish with to buy snacks, milk, and juice from a 7-Eleven in eastern Thailand. “It’s normally used to protect from flies,” he was quoted saying by Hindustan Times.

Thailand is one of the largest contributors to ocean pollution but over the years, a lot of awareness has been spread about the on-going issue.
