What started as just an experiment and the last resort has today become our lifestyle. Up until the pandemic hit us, we never realized that we could work from home as efficiently as in our office cubicles.
But Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk is pretty much done with his employees working remotely. Hence, now, he wants them to return to the office or choose to stay at home permanently but without a job, reported India Today.

Via an email, the business magnate informed his staff that remote work is no longer acceptable at Tesla. In the screengrab of the email that got leaked online, Musk is seen clarifying that employees must be at the office for a minimum of 40 hours or depart Tesla.
“If there are particularly exceptional contributors for whom this is impossible, I will review and approve those exceptions directly.”
“Moreover, the ‘office’ must be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state,” the email with the subject line “remote work is no longer acceptable” concluded.
Even though he didn’t legitimate the authenticity of the email, Elon did respond to a tweet that enquired ‘What about those who think coming to work is an antiquated concept?’
“They should pretend to work somewhere else,” the Tesla CEO responded.
They should pretend to work somewhere else

He is pretty clear and sounds adamant too. Let’s see what people online think of his decision.

You’re going to alienate talent. If the other company offers remote then the most marketable people will go there. The people who will settle for bullies are the people who have nowhere else to go. (This also applies to your next ex wife)

I really do think returning to office is a more productive way, I mean when people stay at home you don’t really know what they’re doing, They might take 50 mins making breakfast then another 50 making lunch, another 50 picking their kids up and they finish early to make dinner

150 minutes for meals and kids is still less than the 180 minutes I used to spend commuting every day. If I took your approach, it would cost me and my company 30 minutes of work per day. That’s 125 hours you want to steal from me. Why? https://t.co/argMUytRrt

Thank you, Elon. With gas approaching $5/gal, it’s only fair that these white-collar managers, programmers, and other “elite” staff endure the same economic consequences of our failed government as the rest of us. No more bubbles or special perks.

I’m curious, did you find a quantifiable decrease in productivity, backed up by empirical data, to demonstrate that Tesla employees were less effective, from home as opposed to in the office? I’ve read studies show workers on average are more productive working remotely.

Working from home is about as productive as working out by yourself at home instead of going to the gym and competing with your fellow man on who is stronger or more jacked. It’s just not the same.

It was a mixed bag of reactions. Work from home or work from the office, which side are you on?
