A Man Challenged Two Teenagers To Call Using A Rotary Telephone And They FAILED!

Most of us have touchscreen smartphones nowadays. But, do you guys remember how people used to dial numbers on old-style telephones? They put their finger in the circular rotary dial and spun it for each digit. Ring a bell? Perhaps a visual might jog your memory.

Today, these vintage landlines have been reduced to decor. Showpieces in the homes of nostalgics. But a man named Kevin Bumstead found another fun use for it. He challenged his nephew Kyle and son Jake to dial a number on one. He gave both the 17-year-olds 4 minutes to complete the task. And filmed them while they were trying. The video has since gone viral with 20,000 comments and over 4,00,000 shares. Kevin revealed the inspiration behind the challenge to the Daily Mail UK saying,

“I saw a video similar on YouTube and I thought it would be funny to see how my kids and their cousins handled this challenge at Christmas.”

How do two 17 year olds dial a rotary phone?

Posted by Kevin Bumstead on Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Just like the adults making this video and giving the teens clues, netizens can’t get enough of their trial and error. One Facebook user wrote, “I enjoyed this so much I wanted to jump in and show them! I watched it several times….they must feel like this when they watch us older folks trying newer technology!” Some pointed out that old people struggle the same way with new technology. While others wanted to challenge their own kids!

Another user mentioned, “There is an app that turns your phone into a rotary phone. You get to drag the numbers to dial.” And I found more than one. They’re ‘Slick Rotary Dialer’ and ‘Old Phone Rotary Dialer’ in case you want to give it a whirl.
