Parents find it extremely tough to keep their kids away from smartphones and social media. The only option they are left with is to confiscate the smartphones, iPods, laptops from their children as punishment for any wrongdoing.

Similarly, 15-year-old Dorothy’s mom confiscated all her gadgets as a punishment after she was boiling rice and the stove burst into flames as she was too busy on her phone.

So, Dorothy began exploring new ways of using social media through other ‘smart’ gadgets in the house, reports New York Magazine. She started off with her Nintendo 3DS and tweeted a goodbye message for her friends on Twitter. “I’m leaving forever. my mom took my phone. ill miss u all sm. I’m crying. goodbye,” she wrote.

Shortly after this, her mom apparently tweeted from the account and wrote, “I see that Dorothy has been using twitter on her Nintendo. This account will be shut down now.”

But this couldn’t deter the teen and two days later she tweeted another message for her friends using a WiiU (a home video game console). However, a little later, she sought the aid of a very unexpected gadget to continue using Twitter.

But hold up just for a bit. Experts investigated to unearth the truth behind the matter. Could a tweeting fridge truly exist?

According to the Guardian, Igor Brigadir, a computer researcher at University College Dublin, reviewed her tweets and approved that the first two tweets were surely done through the mentioned gadgets. But said that the last tweet probably did not come from a refrigerator.

“The LG fridge [tweet] was definitely manually created,” he said. He examined the metadata of the tweets and found that the girl had tweeted the last tweet from a custom Twitter app. “If it was tweeted from a fridge, the metadata would probably have said the tweet was sent through a browser, not from a fridge”, he said.
