The coronavirus lockdown has forced many companies to lay off employees or slash their salaries. Which is why professionals are on the hunt for alternative jobs. Earlier, a lawyer became a basket weaver to make ends meet and now, an IT executive has resorted to applying for a male escort role.

According to Bangalore Mirror, the software engineer started looking for jobs when his company started handing out pink slips. He contacted a firm that was hiring male escorts.

He was quoted saying,

“I was checking out jobs on a site noticed an advertisement for gigolo services. I left a WhatsApp message on the phone number given on the site on July 7. I got a call from the agency telling me that they were hiring people. He introduced himself as Ronak and told me that I had to pay Rs. 1,000 for registration and then Rs.12,500 as membership fees.”

“I transferred the money through an online wallet and then I received a call from another person claiming he was from a different department. The second man asked me to pay some more fees. Soon, I started receiving calls from people claiming to be from different departments asking me to make payments. I realized I had transferred a total of Rs 83,500 and had been duped.”

Subsequently, he filed a complaint at the North East CEN police station. A senior officer part of the investigation warned,

“There are no such registered jobs available in the city and people should verify before applying for such jobs online.”

Better to be safe than sorry, right?
