Tech Mahindra To Give Paid Adoption Leave For Upto 12 Weeks To Same-Sex Couples

The world is becoming more inclusive with people from all walks of life working to reduce gender disparity. Members of the LGBTQ+ community have had it hard to make themselves accepted in the Indian society but their hard work is finally bearing fruits. From arranging job fairs for the LGBTQ+ community to funding training of India’s 1^st transgender pilot, even the judiciary is doing their best to uplift the members of the queer community in India after section 377 was decriminalized by the Supreme Court in Septemeber 2018.

In a bid to make their workplace inclusive and to provide the people from the LGBTQ+ community with equal opportunity, IT major Tech Mahindra will now allow same-sex couples to take 12 weeks of paid adoption leave, reported TOI. As per their new policies, they are also now eligible to take three days of bereavement leave.

Harshvendra Soin, Chief People Officer of Tech Mahindra said, “Today, employees demand a user- and customer-like experience as well as a great human experience. At Tech Mahindra, human experience is a function of user experience, customer experience, employee experience.”

As reported by TNIE, the updated policies will focus on improving the ‘company’s diversity and inclusion policy’, especially for people from the LGBTQ+ community, new parents, cancer patients and survivors.

They will also be reportedly improving their work from home policy in order to “encourage new parents of all genders to spend more time with their newborns and family in the first year of parenthood.”

It is satisfying to see companies like these coming up with gender-neutral policies to bridge the gap between the LGBTQ+ community and society. Now, this is the world I want to live in!
