Teachers not only educate, but they inspire. In a way, they are our second parents.

Teaching being a noble profession and not a money-making job, it was quite a struggle for Harishbhai and Madhuben Jadav, as it was not at all an easy job to raise 9 kids in total. Madhuben, who is 74 years old now, had decided that they would raise their first child, Daksha to become a teacher one day.

There were days when the family faced a financial crisis and had to survive on ‘khichdi’ for days. But their dreams eventually came true.

Today, Daksha and her seven younger sisters – Urvashi (48), Neeta (46), Kalpana (43), Parul (42), Kishori (38), Krishna (35) and Amita (33), are all teachers in various government, municipal and private schools in Ahmedabad. Their only brother, Anand works in the IT sector.

This is what Madhuben had to say on raising 9 kids:

“I managed hundreds of kids in my school, so managing my eight daughters was no big deal.”

This noble couple is both an example and a lesson as to how it’s possible to raise a huge family with good values on a meagre income.
