No TikTok For Tamil Nadu As The Government Prepares To Appeal For A Ban

Even if you are not a TikTok user, you definitely must have heard of it. The media app owned by ByteDance, allows you to create short videos performing songs or dance numbers and share them online. And you bet, the viral trend has lured a whopping number of users who have been ‘expressing too much’ through the software!

However, in a bid to stop the growing influence of TikTok, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to ban the application in the state.

According to NDTV, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday told members of the assembly that it would take steps to boycott the app. Citing the reasons for the decision, AIADMK MLA Thamimun Ansari said that the app is “misleading children” and youth with “vulgar content”.

Information Technology Minister M Manikandan added that the AIADMK government will now take their request to the Centre as political leaders have expressed their concern over TikTok in the past.

“We will take up the matter with Centre to take action (possibly banning it). The same way blue whale game was banned.”

In case you do not know, the app itself terms itself to be inappropriate for children under 12 years of age and is a video sharing platform which is “raw, real and without boundaries”.
