Americans Use ‘Desi Nushke’, Drink ‘Rasam’ To Boost Immunity Thanks To Tamil Nadu Chef!

Us Indians have a typical tendency – even though there are the best of medicinal drugs available in the market to take care of our illnesses, we always tend to go back to our desi nushkes to do the trick. From drinking haldi doodh to help relieve body ache to drinking kada for a sore throat, basic ingredients found in Indian households are the best medicines!

Similarly, the South Indian staple ‘Rasam’ can help boost immunity as the key ingredients include turmeric, ginger, and garlic – all immunity boosters. Hence, 35-year-old Arun Rajadurai, a chef from Tamil Nadu working in the U.S., decided to introduce Americans to rasam and help them boost their immunity amidst the pandemic, reports TNIE.

Arun used to cook for covid patients in three hospitals. He decided to add a complimentary bowl of rasam to the meal. Instantly, it became a hit and the demand for it grew overwhelmingly. Soon rasam came to be known as the “immunity-boosting soup” and it became a bestseller at a Princeton hotel where Arun worked as well.

Rasam then went on to be introduced in New York, New Jersey, and Canada as well in the same hotel’s various branches. Now, 500-600 cups of rasam are sold every day!

“I was experimenting at home when I made this. We never thought it would be such a hit,” said Arun!
