Influencer Reveals Details Of How She Was Body-Shamed At Tarun Tahiliani’s Bridal Store

A doctor and social media influencer, Dr Tanaya Narendra recently called out bridal stores for body shaming plus-size brides. She revealed her own negative experience while shopping at a Tarun Tahiliani store a month before her wedding. Soon after her post went viral, the brand issued a statement.

Dr Tanaya took to her IG stories to respond to their statement and rebuked them for placing blame on her as the customer. She shared screenshots of the email exchange she’d initially had with the brand (before her wedding).

Her email indicates that she’d informed the store of her plans to visit and intimated them that finding the right fit may be an issue, which allowed them a chance to let her know they didn’t have her size in stock.

She alleged that the Ambawatta outlet of the store never mentioned that the size of lehengas she needed weren’t in stock.

Dr Tanaya went on to share details of the actual experience she had when she visited the store. She revealed they made her feel unwelcome and their comments body shamed her. She also slammed the brand for violating her privacy when they revealed her dress size without her consent.

She added that her intent was not to blame the brand, but to end the practice of body shaming itself. The doctor shared that she’d had a phone conversation with the brand, during which they apologized. But concluded that she would not be their customer in future.

Diet Sabya stated that the brand’s statement pinned the blame back on the customer, called out the brand as fat-phobic and said customers deserved better service from designers.
