It was indeed a travesty to see distraught citizens of Afghanistan attempting to flee Kabul after the city was taken over by Taliban. Thousands of innocents swarmed Kabul airport hoping to depart on the US aircrafts leaving Kabul, yet many lost their lives. Among these was Afghanistan’s national footballer a 19-year-old, who sadly fell to his death while clinging to a plane.
Zaki Anwari, 17, fell off the U.S. military plane & died.
He was a member of Afghanistan's national youth soccer team. He saw the arrival of the Taliban as "the end of his dreams & sports opportunities," said a sports official.https://t.co/0K2rgOxOZi— Farnaz Fassihi (@farnazfassihi) August 19, 2021
While the terrifying visuals spoke volumes of the swiftly deteriorating situation on-ground, an online clothing shop mocked the situation of Afghans with their merchandise. The T-shirts sold by ConaneShop, an Etsy shop depicted the silhouettes of men falling off the aircraft to their death.
The distasteful t-shirts used the tagline ‘Kabul Skydiving Club’.Â

Marketed in variants for both men and women in a multitude of hues, the t-shirts had ‘Est. 2021’ etched at the bottom. The shop soon deleted the offensive t-shirts from their e-commerce portal. However, the merchandise earned the ire of people online who were outraged at the insensitive concept.
Hey @Etsy! Why do you sell t-shirts ridiculing #Afghans who have died falling off an airplane in @Kabul?
