King & Queen Of Sweden Join Clean-up Drive, Clear Trash From Versova Beach

Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden and Queen Silvia are on their third visit to India. Even before their 5-day trip started, they were hailed for their humility as they chose to fly commercial and carried their own bags at the airport. People lauded the fact they didn’t subscribe to the VIP culture that is prevalent in our country.

The Swedish royals are in the news once again for participating in a cleaning program at Andheri’s Versova Beach, reports Mumbai Mirror. Accompanied by lawyer and climate activist Afroz Shah, the couple helped remove plastic and other trash from the area.

The royals also spoke at length with the volunteers of the beach clean-up project. NDTV reports that they will now go to a school for underprivileged children, visit the 26/11 Taj Memorial, travel to Dehradun and also inaugurate the Sarai Sewage Treatment Plant in Haridwar.

While most people thought that royals turning into volunteers was an inspiring thing to see, others weren’t impressed. Take a look at the mixed reactions on Twitter.
