Surekha Sikri Gets A Standing Ovation On Winning National Award For Her Performance In ‘Badhaai Ho’

We all know veteran television actress Surekha Sikri, 73, for her powerful role of ‘Dadisa’ in the primetime soap opera ‘Balika Vadhu’. The NSD (National School of Drama) graduate has received many accolades for her captivating performances ever since her debut in the movie ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’. A senior actor who was applauded for her roles in numerous Hindi and Malayalam films, Sikri was recently awarded her third National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The actress who has aged like fine wine, has given Indian audiences several impactful characters. Sikri received a standing ovation at the recently concluded 66th National Film Awards and was bestowed with the award for the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in the movie ‘Badhai Ho’ for her path-breaking performance, reported Times Now.

As reported by TOI, Sikri is still recovering from the brain stroke she had a few months ago during a shoot.

However, she didn’t miss the prestigious ceremony and arrived in a wheel-chair to receive her third National Award amidst loud cheers and applause.

Thrilled by her recent achievement, Sikri said, “National Award for ‘Badhaai Ho’ is an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. It is a great feeling right now. I got a call from the director just now informing about the National Award win. I wish he could have won the award. I thank all the people who liked the concept and the film and it feels great when your work gets appreciated.” She had also earlier received the ‘Critics Choice Film Awards’ for the same role.

The 2018 movie ‘Badhai Ho’ directed by Amit Sharma tells the story of a middle-aged Delhi-based couple with two grown sons, gearing up to welcome their third kid. The veteran actress played the role of ‘Dadi’ in the movie. The film stars Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra in the lead roles. The movie also received a National Film Award in the ‘Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment’ category.
