Indians are quite famous for being frugal when it comes to spending on the bare necessities. Because how else would you explain that plastic bag full of plastic bags in your kitchen or not eating dessert whenever you go to a restaurant? However, when it comes to festivals, we just lose it. From clothes to gadgets, we splurge on everything like there’s no tomorrow. And this Raksha Bandhan, it’s going to rain sweets. Golden sweets.

According to NDTV, a shop in Gujarat named ’24 Carats Mithai Magic is making sweets that are actually made of gold. A customer, Divya Shah said,

“As I entered the shop I was amazed. People in the shop told me that these sweets are good for health. I wish them luck and hope people of Surat are benefited with it.”

I swear I’m not making this up. The sweets are covered with a 24 karat pure gold leaf. That’s why the prices are going up to ₹9000 per kg. If that is not increasing your blood pressure, I don’t know what will.

The most common coating that’s put on sweets is actual silver or something that looks similar. So, when the owner of the shop, Prince Mithaiwala, was asked why he went all the way to use gold coating, he said,

“In place of silver, we have used pure gold leaf as it is beneficial for health. A number of people are buying it as Rakhi is just around the corner.”

The sweets with the special gold covering has been named ‘Gold Sweets’. Prince added that since Raksha Bandhan is around the corner, they’ll be witnessing a huge purchase of these sweets because every sister wants their brother to live a happy and healthy life.

Whether or not you like this concept or the price of the delicacies during these times is completely up to you. However, you’ve to laud the man for coming up with something new with such a stagnant property like sweets. So, if you’re a resident of Surat, will you be trying these ‘Gold Sweets’? Or is it a little too much for your taste?
